Synopsis:
The Goblin Market has always been the center of Sin’s world. But now the Market is at war with the magicians, and Sin’s place is in danger. Thrown out of the Market she loves, Sin is thrown together with brothers Nick and Alan—whom she’s always despised.
Alan has been marked by a magician and is being tortured so that the magicians can get to Nick. As Sin watches Alan struggle to protect the demon brother he loves, she begins to see him in a new light—but she and Mae are locked in a fierce rivalry over who will inherit the leadership of the Goblin Market, and a decisive battle with the Aventurine Circle is looming. Mae’s brother, Jamie, is holed up with the magicians, his loyalties in question. And Nick—well, who knows what a demon might do to save his brother? How far will Nick go to save Alan—and what will it cost them all?
The Demon's Surrender is the third and final book in the Demon's Lexicon Series. I have been waiting for this book for what feels like forever! I am always a little nervous when a series I love comes to and end. Will things be resolved, will the characters I love end up together or even survive to the end of the book? I have to admit I was particularly nervous with Demon's Surrender because we were no longer focused on Nick and Mae while both play integral parts of the story the narration came from Sin. I have to say I loved her as a narrator. Sin is street smart and sassy. Her view of the world is so different from Mae that the story itself becomes edgier, darker because we see it through Sin's eyes. The Demon's Surrender is the perfect conclusion to the trilogy. Sarah Rees Brennan once again manages to create a story that twists and turns in all the places you never expected. There is one particular scene, where Sin is eavesdropping on a conversation between Nick and Mae, that is just perfect. Trust me you'll know it when you read it.
I was drawn to these stories because of the unique premise and the writing. I read picked Demon's Lexicon up a few years ago at Comic Con and I was amazed! Sarah Rees Brennan has a way of having you expect one thing and then out of the blue there is an incredible twist you didn't see coming. I will never forget getting to the end of Demon's Lexicon and discovering that Nick was a demon. I was in love from that point on because I knew there was always going to be that surprise element.
I think what I loved most about this book it that not everything wraps up in a tidy little bow. The characters have to compromise who they are and what they believe in order to survive. The story is messy just like life and that is why Sarah Rees Brennan is such a terrific writer because even in a world of fiction she doesn't look for the neat tidy ending.
Good books are the ones you recommend to others, great books are the ones you can't stop thinking/talking about and need more of. The Demon's Trilogy is definitely a GREAT series. I am sad that this series is over but I look forward to the new projects Sarah is working on.
If you haven't read the series I highly suggest adding it to you summer reading list! This is a must read.
